Ireland and the Nations League roll of shame
The stats speak for themselves. Ireland have a miserable record in the Uefa Nations League. Ten games, no wins. Five draws, with four of them scoreless. Across 900 minutes of football, just two goals have been scored, both in the first game of the respective campaigns. There was a Shaun Williams consolation in Cardiff as things turned sour for Martin O’Neill. Then there was Shane Duffy’s late leveller in Bulgaria in Stephen Kenny’s first game in charge, which wasn’t a sign of better things to come in the autumn. Each game had its only story behind it.
