Gianluca Vialli (1964-2023): A brilliant footballer with an endearing sense of mischief
Gianluca Vialli, who has died aged 58, was one of the finest strikers of the early 1990s, notably for Sampdoria and Juventus; but he will be best remembered in Britain for the impact he made in signing for Chelsea as a player, and then managing the club, as the Premier League began to attract international stars and ultimately leave behind football’s roots as “the working man’s ballet”.
